Sunday School Sunday School Superintendent: Karen Baldwin
“SPECIAL SUMMER SUNDAYS” at Saint Matthew’s – a NEW Church School Opportunity! Saint Matthew’s Church School Staff is looking for some help to offer FIVE “Special Summer Sundays” for children during the summer months of 2008! While some families may have camp and vacation plans, other children aren’t doing ANYTHING “special” during the summer – and we’d like to change that! The plan is to offer an exciting Vacation Bible School Program, “Power Lab,” during the usual Church School time on FIVE SUNDAYS (one in June, two each in July and August). If you can help with a Sunday or two, your Church School Staff would really appreciate it! (These are the folks who give a lot of their time and energy throughout from September through May, and they could use a little help!) Watch for more details in Sunday Leaflets during the month of May, including the SPECIFIC dates for our “Special Summer Sundays,” and information about how to get involved. Please see Karen Baldwin for more information! Thanks! – and families: be sure to bring your children to church for the “Special Summer Sundays”!
This year, children enrolled in church school are having fun learning about creation, prophets and the coming of Jesus. A wonderful Christmas pagent, "People Look East" was enjoyed by all!
During Lent and Eastertide, Saint Matthew’s Church School is using an exciting curriculum developed by Heifer Project International. Focusing on outreach and mission, the children are learning about how people in other countries benefit from, and share with others, the animals, seeds, and other resources provided by Heifer Project. The children have set an ambitious goal for themselves: they are hoping to “fill an ark”! To do this they will need to raise A LOT OF MONEY, and they have come up with some interesting ways to work towards their goal. Loose change is being collected in “piggy banks” in Church School each week (adults are welcome to help out with this – we will continue to do the Children’s Milk Fund collection on the First Sunday of the month), the Lenten Mite Boxes are dedicated to this project, and the Church School will invite the parish to a special Mission Marketplace later in the spring! They are also organizing a recyclable can and bottle collection – the box for this collection is in the Common Room.
"Heifer Marketplace” was a huge success on Sunday, May 4th. "Krafts" made by the Sunday School students and delicious food items were available for sale.
Youth Group Advisors: Steve and Kelly MacGregor For all youth in grades 6-12. Meetings are generally held first and third Sundays of the month after church. For info, speak with Kelly or Steve MacGregor.
